Over the past six weeks the Pūkeko Centre Project Committee have run a stakeholder engagement programme to seek feedback and input into the design and features of the new hall. We have been thrilled with the level of interest from founding club members, potential future users and members of the wider Parklands community.
This is an exciting milestone for the project and signals the beginning of some ‘full noise’ fund raising activity!
It was with mixed emotions that we watched the final remnents of the old Parklands Bowling Club Clubrooms being scooped up and removed from site last at the end of last month. The old building had served the club well until the 2010/2011 earthquakes.
On July 26th a large contingent from the Bowling Club gathered in the new Pavilion to say their goodbyes to the old building and share some of the many memories of fun times spent there over the years. It was a time to look back but also a time to look ahead to the exciting Stage Two developments which will be starting to take shape over the next twelve months.
Thanks to Kings Removals and Scope Group for their work on the demolition and site clearance.
We are thrilled to announce that the Pūkeko Centre ‘Stage One’ clubrooms pavilion will be open for business from this Thursday, 21st December!
This is an amazing milestone for the project, a milestone that chas been achieved through hours of hard work and dedication, especially over the past month.
To our contractors and to the many volunteers who have donated so much time and energy to get us over the line in time for a fresh start in 2018 – THANK YOU! What incredibly satisfying end to an incredibly busy year.
We’re thrilled to report that last month’s inaugural Pūkeko Cup Challenge was a runaway success! This fun, fundraising lawn bowls competition for local businesses is set to become a regular fixture on the Pūkeko Centre calendar. We were overwhelmed by how much interest there was in the event, with demand for tickets far exceeding the spaces available. Our sincere apologies to those who missed out… we are looking at hosting a follow-up event in the new year.
All proceeds from the evening will go to the Pūkeko Centre development fund.
Check out our Facebook page for more photos of the event! https://www.facebook.com/pukekocentre
It has been ‘all hands on deck’ this month, literally. We are immensely grateful to the capable team of volunteers from the Rugby Club who signed up construct the ‘viewing deck’ on the east side of the Pavilion. This addition is set to transform the space and provide a prime vantage point from which to watch the bowling action …perhaps while enjoying your summer beverage of choice.
We’re excited to report that we have received a funding boost from Kiwisport this month. The grant will support the roll out of a number of sports programmes for children. We’re excited about the opportunities this will open up for local children to get involved and try something new. We’ll keep you posted as programmes are finalised..
September has been another busy month on site at Chadbury Street! Our project manager reports that the electrical and plumbing first fit is completed, the kitchen ventilation system installation is well underway and the interior doors are all hung. The GIB is up and the plasterers have started work, so the interior is really starting to take shape now.
We are on track for having the clubrooms pavilion completed next month and plans are afoot for an official opening event early next year.
In the words of legendary baseball player Yogi Berra, it was ‘deja-vu all over again’ earlier this month as two building-ladened trucks made their way across Parklands under the cover of darkness. On this occasion it was two halves of the former Freeville School Hall that were being delivered to the Pūkeko Centre’s Chadbury Street site.
The arrival of the Hall represents another significant milestone for the project. Having a facility of this scale on site will open up an incredible range of possibilities and opportunities for the whole community.
