A VERSATILE, MULTI-USE FACILITY
The Pūkeko Centre is a joint venture being undertaken by the Parklands Bowling Club and the Parklands Rugby Football Club.
In 2017 we relocated two buildings from the former Freeville School onto the Parklands Bowling Club site in Chadbury Street.
The two buildings – the Modern Learning Studio and the School Hall – were previously earmarked for demolition but were generously made available to us by the Ministry of Education. We are thrilled to be able to put them to good use for the benefit of the wider Parklands community!
When completed, the centre will provide a range of options for indoor and outdoor recreation and social activity including shared clubrooms, meeting rooms, catering facilities, hall, ample parking, bowling greens and all-weather courts for netball and futsal.
Stage One, the Pūkeko Centre Pavillion, is now complete and available for hire as a venue for meetings and events.
Work on Stage Two is underway and the multi-use sports hall is expected to be open for business in late 2019.

MEETING THE NEEDS OF A GROWING COMMUNITY
Christchurch East is an area undergoing a huge amount of development and steady population growth. New developments such as Prestons Park and the Alpine View Retirement Village will see an influx of over 10,000 people into the area over the next few years.
The Pūkeko Centre has been designed to meet the needs of this growing community. Much consideration has been given to what facilities are currently available in the area, to ensure the new Centre complements rather than competes with existing amenities.
The Pūkeko Centre will be of appropriate scale and scope to service a wide range of activities across a wide range of age groups – a facility that will welcome and support the community to be vibrant, active and connected.
